Combating Illegal Wildlife Hunting: in Manda National Park the Moyen-Chari Region of Southern Chad

Manda National Park (PNM), located in southern Chad, was established in 1965 to protect Sudanese ecosystems. Its wildlife population grew steadily and significantly until 1979, the year that coincided with the outbreak of the civil war that engulfed the entire country. This chaotic situation led to the near-total disappearance of wildlife in 1980 and the fragmentation of habitats. Over the past ten years, wildlife has been subjected to significant pressures due to poaching and trafficking. The extent of the damage is directly linked to the precarious socioeconomic situation of surrounding communities, and a new participatory approach is needed to reorient natural resource management policies. This book is therefore intended for anyone who, at some point in their work, may be called upon to combat the illegal wildlife trade. In particular, this book is intended for staff at the CVS, the Ministry of the Environment and Nature Conservation, as well as personnel from other government agencies responsible for enforcing wildlife legislation (Customs, Police, Gendarmerie, etc.).
