Comparative study of nationality systems in Africa: Focus on exclusive and pluralist Africa, with emphasis D.R. Congo

This book makes an important contribution to the debate on the future of a State reconciled with its diasporas, by opening up new perspectives for research and public action on citizenship issues in the age of globalization. It proposes a comparative analysis of the legal systems of several African countries, notably Senegal, Mali, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, in order to identify their convergences and divergences, and to draw useful lessons for the Democratic Republic of Congo.The study highlights a continuum between two models. On the one hand, there are systems such as Senegal and Mali, which are attached to the principle of uniqueness and exclusivity of nationality, although they have recently relaxed their legislation to adapt to the realities of diasporas. On the other hand, countries such as Ghana, Kenya and South Africa have adopted a broader recognition of dual nationality.These different models are sources of inspiration for a possible reform of nationality law in the DRC.
