The mitral valve is a very posterior cardiac structure, located between the left atrium and the left ventricle, and is therefore difficult to access for surgery. This is why different approaches have been described. Scars made on the heart chambers can also have an impact on heart rhythm. This study was conducted between January 2008 and August 2012 on the number of pacemakers implanted after mitral valve surgery. Only two approaches were studied: the classic approach through Sondergaard's groove and Guiraudon's transseptal biatrial approach. This study is of interest because mitral valve repair is increasingly being performed at an earlier stage in the history of the disease, and the surgical outcome must be perfect. An approach that allows excellent exposure therefore allows perfect repair of the mitral valve.
