Configuration Identification is more than a technical process-it is a strategic necessity in any complex project or system development environment. As the first formal element of the configuration management (CM) process, Configuration Identification defines the structure for how system components are cataloged, tracked, and managed. This enables organizations to maintain system integrity, ensure regulatory compliance, and support effective change control across the lifecycle of a product or service. In this module, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the policies, processes, tools, and methodologies used to identify and control Configuration Items (CIs). These items may be physical components, software elements, documentation, or even procedural workflows contributing to a system's function and maintenance.
