This report, Control of Immigration: Statistics United Kingdom 2006 (Cm. 7197) , contains data relating to immigration into the UK in 2006, as well as selected data for earlier years.Divided into eight sections, which cover: Statistical Summary for the years 1996-2006; Entry Control at the Ports; Asylum; After-entry Control; Grants of Settlement; Enforcement; Appeals; and, Migration.The findings for 2006 include: the estimated number of international arrivals from outside the Common Travel Area rose by 3 per cent to 104.8 million with 12.9 million non-EEA nationals, a 9 per cent rise on 2005; asylum applications, excluding dependants, fell by 8 per cent to 23,610, with the highest number of applications from nationals of Eritrea, Afghanistan, Iran, China and Somalia; and asylum removals (including assisted returns and some voluntary departures) rose by 19 per cent to 16,330, excluding dependents.
