Throughout most people's lives, events occur that are perceived as critical by those affected at the time they happen and which consequently threaten the stability of their everyday lives. The strategies employed to cope with personal crises can be adaptive or maladaptive, i.e. they can either facilitate or hinder the long-term and sustainable coping process. Against this background, the present study examines the characteristics of adaptive coping strategies aimed at restoring subjective stability at various levels.
