Cricket the Philadelphia story . Australians of 1912

The Australians had last toured North America after their Ashes campaign of 1896. For the second time in three years they lost a match to the Gentlemen of Philadelphia by an innings That was in no small part due to a young swing bowler, John Barton King, who was 22 years old when he had bowled Philadelphia to the last of those two first-class victories. Twelve years was then, and still is, a long time for a fast bowler, but King was still going strong and was keen to test himself once again against an Australian XI. Could he produce the goods once more or was this one step too far for a bowler who was a few weeks shy of his 39th birthday? Australia too had a veteran in their ranks, captain Syd Gregory, who was 42 years of age; he had been on both of the sides destroyed by King in the past, could lightning strike thrice?
