Cross Cultural Analysis of the Influence Humor

My book, titled "Cross Cultural Analysis of the Influence of Humor on Organizational Dissent in the US, Korea, Japan, and China," delves into the complex interplay between humor and organizational dissent across four culturally diverse nations. The core focus is to understand how humor, as a communication tool, affects the expression of dissent within organizations, and how this relationship varies significantly due to cultural differences. The study begins by establishing the importance of organizational dissent as a crucial form of workplace communication that can drive organizational improvement and innovation. However, the expression of dissent is often influenced by cultural norms and values, which can either encourage or discourage open disagreement. Humor, with its ability to convey messages indirectly and mitigate potential conflict, emerges as a key strategy in navigating dissent across cultures. The book explores the cultural dimensions of individualism/collectivism and power distance, drawing insights from Hofstede's cultural framework and Confucian ethical values, to explain the differing approaches to dissent in the US, Korea, Japan, and China.
