Debt and Economic Growth in UEMOA Countries

This study focuses on the member countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), an economic and monetary integration organization comprising eight countries in the subregion, whose primary objective is to promote the economic and social development of its member countries through the implementation of common strategies and policies. This research is warranted by the fact that, for several years now, economic policymakers have focused their attention on the extent of debt and the effects that this debt has on development policies and strategies within UEMOA member countries. The main objective of this study is therefore to determine the impact of external debt on economic growth in WAEMU countries. The results of this analysis have made it possible to formulate economic policy priorities for better management of the debt problem in these countries. More specifically, this book highlights the determinants of economic growth and also assesses the HIPC Initiative within the WAEMU region.
