Democracies face mounting pressure as crucial decisions are increasingly taken outside of national procedures. Using Switzerland as a case study, Charlotte Sieber-Gasser demonstrates how these dynamics alter the balance of power among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, while simultaneously eroding the mechanisms of direct democratic participation.
