This short movie - almost unknown in the UK - is traditionally watched on December 31st every year in Germany. It was first shown way back in 1963, and although in English, the simple dialogue, explained in a German-language introduction, is well understood by many Germans. "Same procedure as every year!" says May Warden's dotty old Miss Sophie; and so a tradition of watching it every new year's eve was born.Freddie Frinton does a fine turn as Miss Sophie's drunken butler, and rarely has a comedy drunkard been portrayed so well. The sketch seems to have been recorded in one take, and that's impressive given its relative complexity.Dinner for One won't leave you roaring with laughter, but its quaint, gentle humour is quite endearing and may become an annual tradition if you give it a chance.+ Bonus special 10 vor 10 (5 min)
