During these years, Marmada had bewitched Yaacoub, but he still yearned for his wife. After a long wandering, passing through events that collectively comprise the history of North and Central Africa as a whole, he returns to his home with an exhausted body and a heart burdened with tribal violence and the conflicts among them, and he does not return victorious. All of this is from the distant past, but is strongly present in our time, since the chapters of the novel define the relationship between ancient states before they became states, and draw the historical relationship between the convoys wandering in the African desert.
