Dockside Friendship

"Some friendships may ripple through the waves, but never wash away." I don't have one single childhood memory without my best friend, Rhett, in it. We shared the best of times perched on a weathered dock, sharing our dreams as wide as the horizon, and best of all, skipping stones across the water. I wish I could've spent forever in my magical coastal town, but as it goes, life has a way of pulling you in different directions. I built a life far from paradise, carefully constructed and far from the one I used to have back home. My best friend stayed in the one place that raised us both, carving out a future of his own. Time and distance stretched between us, and the lifetime of memories of simpler times and happy moments never quite let go. When an unexpected pull draws me back home, I find myself standing once more on the edge of the dock and coming face to face with the boy, now a man who knew me better than anyone. Old memories and unspoken truths resurface like the tide, and we must confront our past and who we were, and ask whether the connection in our friendship is still there, because once upon a time, we vowed it would never end.
