The Winter Olympics in Austria presented a major opportunity for the entire country to reintroduce itself to the world after the end of the war. This work examines the considerable efforts made to host the Olympic Games. Consequently, both Winter Games must be regarded as highly significant in terms of both domestic and foreign policy. Hosting the Winter Olympic Games provided an ideal opportunity to showcase the new state and its policy of neutrality on the international stage, as well as to foster a sense of identification with the new state amongst the population.
