Don't Be Like Jonah: A Study Through the Book of Jonah

The wind obeys. The sea obeys. The great fish obeys. Even a plant and a worm do exactly what they are told. The only one who runs is the man who knows God best.Jonah is not a children's story about a whale. It is a mirror. It is the account of a believer who wanted God's blessing without God's mission - and who was angrier about mercy shown to his enemies than he was grateful for mercy shown to himself. In six sessions, Dr. Phillip G. Andrade walks through all four chapters of Jonah, tracing the staircase of rebellion that led down to Joppa, down into the ship, down into the hold, and down into the sea. Along the way he uncovers the historical Nineveh most readers never hear about, explains why the irony in Jonah is real rather than invented, and asks the question the book itself refuses to answer for us.Each chapter includes a full Bible study - Observe, Interpret, Apply - with space to write. The closing "Am I Jonah?" inventory helps you name exactly which step of the descent you are standing on today. The fish was not the punishment. The fish was the rescue.Ideal for small groups, adult Sunday school, discipleship, and personal study.
