This book is all about the significance of the moment in the poetry - both love poems and divine - of Donne. In his life also Donne was consistently in search of a moment , an instant , a speck of Time , when he could find his self , his self-identity and also identify himself with another self in the shape of a beloved in this material world and in the shape of God in the spiritual world . Donne transferred this search from his personal life to his poetry and sermons. All - his life, his poems and his sermons - become a part of his integrated consciousness at the centre of which there is this search for the moment of identity.
