Dreadful Pleasures

Revolting’s album Dreadful Pleasures is a full-length LP released in 2009 by the Swedish death metal band led by Rogga Johansson. The record is deeply rooted in old school Swedish death metal, featuring the classic buzzsaw guitar tone and a raw, aggressive sound that nods to iconic acts like Dismember and Entombed. The album is devoted to horror themes, weaving lyrical tales inspired by classic monster movies and slasher cinema, paired with powerful riffing, brutal drumming, and snarling vocals. This creates an atmosphere reminiscent of cheesy 80s horror, amplified by the energetic delivery and compelling production. Blending various styles within the death metal genre, Dreadful Pleasures effectively combines rapid tempos, groovier mid-paced sections, and even touches of death-doom, making each listen both consistent and dynamic. The LP maintains a uniform intensity throughout, offering pure, uncompromising death metal with a horror obsessed edge. Its simple, honest execution does not rely on elaborate experimentation but instead focuses on transmitting the sheer fun and brutality that define the genre. The album’s energy and passion invite repeated listens, positioning Dreadful Pleasures as a standout in Rogga Johansson's extensive body of work, and establishing it as a true homage to horror-fueled death metal.
