economic governance in Central Africa: the imprint of IMF: IMF case Cameroon, Gabon, CAR and Chad

The multiple crises suffered by the CEMAC states, and their socio-economic and socio-political repercussions, have forced them to develop crisis exit strategies. In accordance with the IMF's Articles of Agreement, Cameroon, Gabon, CAR and Chad have requested IMF assistance through letters of intent, in order to overcome the instability of their macroeconomic frameworks. This recourse, the subject of much controversy, calls into question the real nature of the IMF's intervention in these economies.Based on a rigorous methodology, this study demonstrates that the Fund's action, although influenced by manifest and latent issues and constrained by both internal and external factors, contributes to restoring balance of payments equilibrium. This contribution is made through financial consolidation and the implementation of socio-economic, political and humanitarian measures.
