Emigrants

In the final years of Soviet rule, a single decision-to leave-reshapes the fate of an entire family. Emigrants follows their journey through the labyrinth of OVIR, where every form, every delay, and every interrogation threatens to extinguish hope. Yet within this oppressive system, small acts of courage and loyalty illuminate the path forward. As they prepare to cross borders both visible and invisible, the family confronts the weight of memory, the fear of refusal, and the fragile promise of a life beyond the Iron Curtain.Blending intimate human stories with the broader sweep of history, Emigrants reveals the emotional cost of uprooting a life and the quiet bravery required to begin again. It is a novel about dignity reclaimed, love carried across continents, and the enduring strength of those who choose possibility over fear.
