Bol Due to growing concern about the environment, the IMO (International Maritime Organisation), through MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships), created the sector's first mandatory standard on the energy efficiency of ships, seeking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and costs related to energy consumption. The aim of this book is to propose a methodology for energy efficiency measures on ships sailing in the Amazon, applying it to a ship - a case study. The ship analysed is a 19-year-old vessel - the age of almost all of its equipment - where the propulsion system is electrically isolated from power generation. The actions proposed for the equipment available for verification were 1 - replacing the reference case lamps with LED lamps; and 2 - replacing the electric motors with similar, higher-efficiency models. The actions proved to be viable, with a total payback time of 2 years, reducing the emission of 164 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over 20 years and saving around R$ 352,974.80 at the end of the project's life, thus justifying its implementation.
