Epitaph For An Angel

Connor and Laura travel to Boston to attend the funeral of Catherine Wainwright, the mother of Connor's college friend and former lover Grace. Connor's attention, however, is quickly diverted by the presence of her own mother, Amanda, with whom she has not spoken in years. Matters take a horrifying turn when funeral director Billy Dagle loses control of the limousine carrying Amanda and Grace's aunt Florence Gardner before it careens off the Fore River Bridge, plunges into the water, and explodes, killing all its occupants. Joining forces to investigate these suspicious deaths, including Catherine's, is the stalwart cast from the pervious Connor Hawthorne mysteries: Connor's father, Benjamin; FBI agent Ayalla Franklin; and Washington, D.C., police captain Malcolm Jefferson. As they dig deeper, their investigation reveals a special gift shared by the Wainwright women that is dependent upon a mysterious and powerful pendant, for which various surly types - Billy's flashy business partner, a hired hit man, and one of Hitler's cronies - are willing to risk their lives. What is the nature of the amulet called le voleur d'ames ("the thief of souls"), and can Connor harness its energy before those who might use it for evil? As Connor and Laura discover, the future of humankind hangs in the balance.
