This collection of legal texts - written in English, German, and French language - provides the reader with easier access to primary EU law. The book stems from the conclusion that any systematic approach at interpretation of EU law has to consider the differences between the official languages. This is helpful in taking a first step across the language barrier. The book also provides insight into different legal systems and recognizes the need to scrutinize legal opinions from a comparative perspective. The EU's legal system lends itself - due to its unique multi-language nature - especially well to a comparative approach, even with English having taken a lead role in the work of European institutions. All in all, it has to be kept in mind that language differences present obstacles to effective legal interpretation, obstacles which this compilation seeks to surmount.
