Bol Ecuador, an oil-producing country and producer of exotic fruits such as pineapple (Ananas comosus), generates large amounts of organic waste. This study uses pineapple crown leaves to obtain fibers for the adsorption of oil in water. After cleaning, grinding, and treating them with ethanol, the fibers were characterized using FT-IR, revealing stretching vibrations characteristic of amines and methyl groups. Thin-layer chromatography identified chlorophyll A and B, and optical microscopy revealed smooth, cylindrical fibers. The adsorption capacity, evaluated by weight differences, demonstrated high performance, comparable to that of organic materials and commercial adsorbents, highlighting its industrial potential.
