Hospitals are fundamentally affected by changes in the healthcare sector. Middle management in nursing therefore frequently faces complex challenges due to the merging of organisational units. Managers are required to deploy the staff assigned to them appropriately in the event of staff shortages and peak workloads. This book identifies and presents the management tools required for this, as well as the facilitating and hindering factors involved in designing and implementing this expanded staff deployment, from the perspective of middle management using a qualitative research approach. The results indicate a thoroughly positive attitude towards this option for flexible staff deployment, provided certain framework conditions are in place to address the situation at hand.
