Given the significant role played by the environment in the emergence and resurgence of emerging and re-emerging diseases, we felt it was worthwhile to deepen our knowledge of the ecology of infectious diseases, natural hazards and risk management in order to make a positive contribution to our country, particularly in the context of preventing and eradicating disease, as, as doctors, we understand that our environment always plays a role in health. The issue of road traffic accidents is an area that is neglected in developing countries, yet it causes serious disasters. We therefore felt it was appropriate to raise awareness of this phenomenon through our research carried out on six major roads in the city of Kinshasa.
