This dissertation examines the shortcomings of the decentralized unitary state and full multiparty system in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It analyzes the resulting conflicts of jurisdiction, weak provincial autonomy and political instability. Faced with these limitations, the work examines federalism and bipartism as institutional alternatives likely to strengthen the stability, governability and effectiveness of institutions in the DRC.
