Finding Mother

Finding Mother chronicles the events that shaped one woman's consciousness as she struggled to find spiritual meaning in the confines of suburban life and the myth of the American dream. As a modern liberated woman, she had to face the fact that she did not feel free, that she was dissatisfied, and far from understanding her intrinsic value as a woman, mother, and human being. In her search for answers, she journals her childhood and coming of age in the turbulent 1970's, the divorce of her parents, and her experimentation with drugs. She traces the eroding of her sense of self as it is replaced by a persona designed to please others, especially men. In stark contrast to her troubled past, she records the loving details that fill her family and community life. Sparked by a simple woman in a sari, she begins to harken an intuitive voice that leads her deeper into herself, showing her how to realize a feminine power that is neither slogan nor myth, but a living source of love. This is a story of self-discovery for any person, male or female, who has ever longed to recapture their innocence, to overcome the loneliness and alienation of modern existence, and to fill their daily lives with wonder.
