First studies in plant life Australasia

First published for young Australians, this friendly guide begins with "A Walk Round My Garden," then turns to seeds, roots, stems, leaves, and the wondrous variety of flowers. Later chapters explain fruits and seeds, how plants multiply without seeds, how people improve plants, and how one season prepares for the next-always with questions, experiments, and outdoor work that keep curiosity alive. The preface sets a refreshing aim: don't stop at facts; show the reasons that make facts meaningful, and invite learners to ask better questions. The result is a book that respects children's minds and meets them where they live.Readers come away with more than plant lore: they practise attention, build clear language for what they notice, and grow in patience and gratitude-habits that steady judgment and deepen delight outdoors.
