Flashpoint: Ember Chronicles Book 1

Sosa Caldera only wanted noodles.Instead, a hero-school dropout robbed the restaurant, punched the cook, and ruined her lunch. Sosa responded with a wok full of boiling oil, a kitchen knife, and several decisions that looked much more heroic after the System edited them into a Comic. Now she has fire powers, rent due, and a provisional hero license she never asked for.In Iconum, public stories create real power. Heroes earn supernatural Marks by surviving dramatic events, agencies take a percentage of every victory, and the System rewards whatever behavior makes the best narrative. For Sosa, anger becomes fire, violence becomes strength, and every attempt to stay alive pushes her body further from ordinary.Hero work pays better than unemployment, but something is wrong with the stories breaking into the city. Defeated villains keep returning. Promising heroes disappear into agencies that claim to be helping them. The conflicts are becoming too coordinated to be accidents.Someone is manufacturing better heroes-and better villains. To survive, Sosa will have to become the kind of hero she has spent her life despising without letting the world decide who that hero is for her.Flashpoint is a darkly funny superhero progression fantasy featuring dangerous upgrades, institutional corruption, graphic violence, and one deeply reluctant professional who still thinks most heroes are assholes. The world watches what you do, decides what that makes you, and gives you enough power to become trapped inside the answer.
