Floppy and Fuzzy Bear: The Peas

Fuzzy Bear does not like peas. He has hung a sign in the kitchen about it. One afternoon in Leafy Bear's garden is about to make that sign very difficult to defend.Fuzzy has thought this through carefully. Plump peas, shriveled peas, even juicy peas all share the very same problem, which is that they are peas. So when the bears visit Leafy Bear's garden, Fuzzy arrives with a plan: avoid all green things, and be completely peas-free. There are the reddest tomatoes, so tomato-like and tasty. There is the corn, so corn-like and sweet. And there is, of course, a vine overflowing with yellow pods.Fuzzy likes those best of all."Unique is what must make these so good!" Fuzzy giggled."Maybe," said Floppy. What follows is a funny, tender story about trying new things, the kindness of not saying I told you so, and one very firm opinion that somehow survives the entire afternoon. For anyone who still holds a place for Corduroy, or who has wished for one more afternoon with George and Martha or Frog and Toad, Floppy and Fuzzy Bear are two best friends whose ordinary days turn funny, warm, and just a little bit silly.Written for ages 2 to 7, The Peas reads aloud in about five minutes, making it just right for bedtime, a classroom carpet, or any small person with very strong opinions about vegetables.Author Michael Vuolo has taught in New York City public elementary schools for more than a decade, and illustrator Stephanie Gouveia painted every spread by hand in watercolor. More than a decade in elementary classrooms has given Vuolo plenty of experience with very big opinions about very small vegetables. The Peas is the second book in the Floppy and Fuzzy Bear series, where friendship, small adventures, and very big bear opinions are always close at hand. The series begins with The Birthday and continues in The Furstyle, both available now, with The Bearcade on the way.Because dinner tonight will be anything but peas.
