Forest resource management and water resources management: Forests, wildlife, development: Burkina Faso

In Burkina Faso, declining agricultural production and the degradation of natural resources have made water management and the management of protected areas essential means of intensifying agriculture and promoting regional development. Today, strategies in this area are undergoing a number of changes. In the water sector, due to the high cost of projects, there is a growing trend away from sector-specific, poorly integrated structures in favour of multi-purpose developments (irrigation, fishing, hydroelectric power generation, drinking water supply). The organisation of designated ecological areas is also becoming a necessity in programme planning, given the diverse activities and significant financial contributions that can offer development opportunities to rural communities. These are all relevant topics covered, providing a wealth of information for researchers, students, professionals and development institutions.
