This research addresses the issue of poor performance among Beninese SMEs, which is often linked to a lack of formalised management procedures. To address this issue, a quantitative approach was adopted using a multiple linear regression model. The data comes from a survey conducted by INSTaD among 3,430 companies. The results indicate that formalisation has a positive and highly significant effect on turnover growth. In addition, the age and level of education of the manager, as well as the location in an urban area, appear to be key determinants of performance. Keywords: Formalisation of SMEs, Financial Performance and Growth of SMEs.
