Europe's largest complex of medieval monumental bronze objects is made up of around 30 doors cast from various copper alloys. These doors, most of which are located in Italy, date from the 11th-12th centuries and are the epitome of medieval metal craftsmanship. The doors were crafted from a variety of copper alloys using the lost wax process. They could be cast as a single unit or individual metal fittings could be attached to a wooden support.
