Four Horseman and A Rose: Civil War Novel

Four Horsemen and a Rose synopsis Al Westfall, and his best friend, Phil Wright, a psychic, are orderlies and bodyguards for General George H. Thomas in the period after the battle of Mill Springs, Kentucky. During this time Phil does a psychic reading for Al where he sees arduous times ahead, and possibly for himself. Al is forseen to be reunited with his love after perilous times. Al and Phil are present before and during the battle of Murfreesboro and active in a key skirmish during the clash., Shortly after the battle Al, is assigned to escort Helen Browning, wife of John Browning, a philandering Confederate soldier, around the hospital tents to help her find her father who was killed or wounded while protecting the farm from marauding Union soldiers. Despite her being married, unbeknownst to Al, they fall in love. Al helps Helen find her father, helps get him freed from hospital and Union custody, and escorts him back to the farm. On the way, he discovers that Helen is married and her husband is serving with the Confederate Army. With this news, Al terminates his contact with Helen. Later he sees her in the town and they talk about their feelings for each other and she explains why she did not tell Al. They part as friends. Helen and her father sneak away from Murfreesboro and return to Albany, Georgia. All chance of Al and Helen ever seeing each other again seems to be lost forever. Several months later, Al and Phil are captured during the campaign to capture Atlanta. They are sent to Andersonville Prison camp where their very existence is in doubt due to the harsh environment of the camp. Every ounce of effort is spent on survival, until circumstances compel both men to strive for escape.
