Let's get something out of the way upfront. This isn't another "clients matter" book. You know law firm clients matter. Every managing partner since the dawn of billable time has known clients matter. GCs are squeezed, panels keep getting tighter, and "experience" has become the word everyone throws around at retreats like it's going to save us all. I'm not here to hand you another lukewarm rehash of client service platitudes dressed up with a few blind-sourced war stories. If your firm sits anywhere within or near the AMLAW 200, or more importantly, one day aspires to, here's what I think you're actually missing. A workable, tangible way to operate your firm as though clients were your most important financial asset, not just a revolving door of matters that show up, get billed, and fade into the CRM. What you probably don't have is a shared model, something partners and BD folks and client teams can all point to, that answers the stuff that actually keeps firm leaders up at night: - Which clients genuinely matter most, and why.- How those clients actually experience working with your firm (not how you imagine they do).- What specific moves you can make this week, not this decade, to protect and grow those relationships.- How to think rigorously about regrettable client churn, and what's within your power to head it off.
