This book invites readers on a journey through the history of development co-operation. It begins with a theoretical examination of the development theories that shaped thinking and action in the 20th century, and continues through to current approaches and debates. The final section of the book profiles an organisation active in the field of development co-operation and illustrates how collaborative work on an equal footing can function. The question of who should develop - and, above all, how - has preoccupied the academic world from the very beginning. Although this book cannot provide answers to these questions, it offers food for thought on critically examining the current state of development cooperation, with a view to generating new and innovative ideas for the future.
