With the encouragment of family, great mentors and friends, Willie made plans toattend college and get a degree in biology. As the old saying goes, "Life is what happens when you're busy making plans." The main roadblock to Willie's plans was something stirring in a land on the other side of the globe in a place called Vietnam. With that degree in hand and a commission from being in ROTC in college, Willie entered the U.S.Army and was eventally sent to Vietnam to lead a unit of men during a time of intense jungle warfare. He was seriously injured and awarded the Purple Heart Medal. His military career would take him around the globe serving in areas including Hawaii, Canada, and the Pentagon. This is Willie's incredible journey, told by him, as a soldier, husband and father, serving all with an always present faith in God.
