From special needs schools to mainstream education: Possible approaches ensuring the success of inclusive education for pupils with multiple disabilities

Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities indicates that Germany has committed itself to an inclusive education system. This book describes the changes required to improve the inclusion of pupils with multiple disabilities in mainstream schools. Firstly, the terms 'special school focusing on physical and motor development', 'multiple disabilities', 'integration' and 'inclusion' are addressed and defined to clarify their meanings. Furthermore, the book examines the educational situation of children and young people with complex disabilities. Finally, it proposes possible changes that appear necessary to ensure the successful implementation of the educational inclusion of pupils with multiple disabilities in practice.
