General Theory of Science: A Century Selected Writings from Science/¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿

Over the past 110 years, the journal Science has chronicled the development and evolution of human science and technology, as well as the emergence and localization of science and technology in China. It has also witnessed the tumultuous modern history of China. In its early years, Science focused on popularizing science and disseminating scientific knowledge, gradually shifting toward promoting scientific research and exploring ways to develop science in China. After World War II, it advocated for international scientific cooperation, the rational use of science, and the planning of scientific development. Following its resumption of publication during the Reform and Opening-Up period, the journal placed greater emphasis on national strategies for scientific development, the relationship between scientific progress and the human living environment, and the relationship between science and the humanities. Several themes run throughout its history: "What is science?", "The social function of science," "How to develop science in China," and "The coordinated development of pure and applied science."This anthology is arranged chronologically and brings together important articles, conference speeches, and interviews published in Science from 1915 to 2015. The 36 volumes preceding the journal's suspension are divided into four periods based on the journal's leadership: the Yang Quan period, the Wang Jin period, the Liu Xian period, and the Zhang Mengwen period.
