Bol This book focuses on oceanographic research conducted in the Goiana River estuary - PE (7º20'S/34º50'W) and aimed to understand the influence of natural and anthropogenic processes on current sedimentation and biogeochemistry in the area. In February 2012, 23 sediment samples were collected in the lower and middle estuaries, and sedimentary and geochemical analyses were performed. In addition, the composition of the sandy fraction and the trophic status of the environment were determined, and statistical treatments were performed. The estuarine sediments were classified as heterogeneous, with a predominance of siliciclastic silty sands, poorly sorted with low to medium organic content (C < 2.34%) and of mixed origin (¿¹³C ¿ -24.3¿PDB). From the database generated, the predominant condition of hypertrophy was found, especially in stations adjacent to shellfish farming areas, indicating that the current sediment distribution presents anomalies directly related to the external input of contaminants. Finally, influences resulting from agricultural, aquaculture and cement industry activities carried out in the vicinity of the Goiana River were evident in the estuarine sediments.
