Bol Dear student of the German language, Categorizing verbs into groups in this booklet for learning German verbs is the result of more than 35 years of teaching German. Many of my students prove me right as 99% of them took their exams at one of the many "Goethe-Institute" all over the world with a grade "SEHR GUT". These results can be reached within a very reasonable time frame such as four to six months of serious studying for each of the different levels (A1 - C2) according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) stipulations. German verbs can have separable and inseparable prefixes, vowel changes or be reflexive just to name a few of the peculiarities. Dividing German verbs into categories of "strong" and "weak" verbs to me is like hammering a round peg into a square hole - it just does not fit. Having your correct present tense and compound past in German is a major milestone for having conversations "auf Deutsch". Feeling confident enough to just start speaking without bothering about whether every little detail is correct should be your main target. One of my favourite authors and at the same time one of the most famous German children's book authors, Erich Kästner, used to say: "Es gibt nichts Gutes, außer: Man tut es." Which means in English: JUST DO IT! It is your unspectacular day to day work on the German language - or any other thing in life - that brings you the success that you are looking for. I suggest 20 minutes of self-studying per day and 2-3 one-to-one lessons per week for excellent results.
