Bol Roman Gorski car smatra se jednim od prvih psiholoskih romana srpske knjizevnosti. Kroz sudbinu glavnog junaka Djurice i pricu o njegovom odmetanju u hajduke, kroz unutrasnji monolog glavnog junaka povremeno svesnog sopstvene zivotne stranputice, ispricana je vecna prica o borbi dobra i zla koja se odvija u najskrovitijim delovima ljudske duse.-----Among the earliest psychological novels in Serbian literature, The Mountain Prince follows Djurica-bright, wounded, and drifting toward outlaw life-through a moral wilderness. Rankovic writes from inside the mind: self¿reproach, proud vows, flashes of tenderness, the sudden lure of violence. Without sermonizing, the book shows how a young man, misread by his community and misled by himself, chooses a path that promises freedom and delivers another kind of captivity. A classic reintroduced for readers of Dostoevsky¿tinged realism.
