A special collectors edition packed with never-before-seen archival material, this is the definitive inside story of grime: raw, unfiltered, and impossible to ignore. If you know, you know. If you don’t, this is where it started. ‘A definitive history of the genre’ – DAZED ‘There are very few better placed than Roony to document the Grime scene – and he does so perfectly’ – ROMESH RANGANATHAN ‘A piece of UK history’ – ANDRES BRANCO, WAVEY GARMS Starting out as a fan with a handycam in the early 00s, Roony’s RiskyRoadz series captured the raw energy of grime as it happened, filming the MCs, freestyles and clashes that helped take the scene from pirate radio and street DVDs to YouTube and beyond. From Ghetts’ legendary freestyles and Dizzee Rascal’s Ivor Novello win to Top Boy landing on Netflix and Stormzy’s Glastonbury set, GRIME charts the journey from the ends to the mainstream. But that’s only half the story. Roony was there for the rest: buying mixtapes at Rhythm Division, filming Grime Gran in his nan’s living room, eating pie and mash with Kano and shooting Skepta’s music videos on council estates in the early hours (with props later turning up on eBay). Meet local legends – Giggs, Wiley, D Double E and more – through the eyes of someone who knew them as hungry young MCs, long before they became household names. GRIME captures the 140BPM heartbeat of a generation – a culture that changed British music, shaped mainstream culture and continues to push boundaries today.
