Groundwater accounts for 97% of the world's freshwater, and is a major source of drinking water and an essential resource for domestic and public water supplies. Its quality determines its value as a resource and how it affects surface water. Despite the growing demand for groundwater, its quality is threatened by geogenic processes, geological features, human activities and abstraction and storage. The groundwater of the Saïs plain is the main source of drinking water for the Fès-Meknès region (Saïs Basin) in Morocco. However, these waters are threatened by overexploitation and local pollution. This work represents a contribution to the evaluation of the physico-chemical quality of Saïs groundwater by measuring physico-chemical parameters and heavy metals using atomic absorption spectroscopy, and analyzing their spatial distribution.
