This piece evaluated the effect of natural regulators found in two plants of the Aracaceae family on the germination rate, growth, and early development of kola species (Cola nitida and Cola acuminata) in Nigeria. The research evaluated coconut (Cocos nucifera) and palmyra palm (Borassus flabellifer) extracts as eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic growth regulators for overcoming the prolonged dormancy commonly associated with kola nut propagation. The study demonstrates that C. nucifera extract significantly enhanced the germination of the species, their seedling vigour, and taproot development compared to B. flabellifer and water. The findings highlight the superior responsiveness of C. acuminata and establish coconut extract as a practical, low-cost natural growth regulator capable of improving kola seedling production. This research contributes valuable insights to sustainable kola cultivation and nursery management practices in tropical agriculture.
