The narrator lives in London now, but the past lives on in his memory. He finds refuge in it to take a break from the news of the bloody killings that afflicted Syria during its long war. The war scattered what was left of an entire generation of secret militants and rebels' dreams, who ended up in prison, exiled, or prosecuted by security forces, decades ago, when they dared to dream of freedom or "Azadi" in Kurdish.
