Guidelines for the Conservation and Preservation of Documents

This paper addresses the challenges faced by public and private entities in Colombia regarding the conservation and preservation of documents with archival value, particularly during the pre-custodial phase. Despite the regulatory framework established by the General Archive of the Nation, limitations persist in the coordination between records management systems and quality management systems. The overall objective is to propose guidelines for the conservation and preservation of documents of archival value, integrating the criteria of ISO standards and Colombian archival legislation. Notable theoretical references include authors such as Giménez Chornet (2014), Conway (1996), Waters and Garrett (1996), as well as the international digital preservation models OAIS (ISO 14721), PREMIS, and the ISO 15489 standard. The methodology employed is a qualitative, descriptive, and documentary study, involving a review of regulations and a comparative analysis of international standards and Colombian legislation.
