Bol Research on the settlements, identities, and social classes of populations inhabiting various natural environments during the Six Dynasties period.¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿This book takes "locality" in the history of the Six Dynasties as its research subject and is structured into three parts: "Environment, Landscape, and Settlements," "Administrative Divisions, Local Gazetteers, and Locality," and "Populations, Registered Households, and Lineages." By integrating a wide range of sources-including transmitted texts, stone inscriptions, excavated materials, and scattered fragments of lost writings-the work explores how institutions shaped "locality" from long-term and regionally differentiated perspectives, as well as the interactions between local populations and institutional frameworks. Centered on different dimensions of "locality," it examines core issues related to the history of regional societies, such as identity expression and local belonging among social groups.Adopting a bottom-up perspective, the book focuses on "locality" to observe the operation of state institutions, as well as the emergence and dissolution of political events-both major and minor-within the context of local historical development. It also investigates the socio-cultural meanings behind place names, traces the production and compilation of Six Dynasties local gazetteers and their relationship with local administrative systems, and conducts in-depth analyses of topics such as the role of registered households in sinicizing marginal groups and incorporating them into the administrative system, the growth of lineages and the construction of local power, and the expression of group identities. By comprehensively utilizing stone inscriptions, tomb brick epitaphs, and related archaeological materials, the book presents a rich and diverse picture of medieval local society, highlighting the academic value and significance of fragmentary historical sources in the study of Han, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties history.¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿--"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿""¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿
