Bol In each chapter, the authors analyse the political environment of the specific period, discuss the main events and protagonists, the design of the political campaigns, and attempt to offer explanations on the reasons behind loss or victory. This book is a valuable work for political scientists and historians, as well as for citizens - especially younger ones - who now have in their hands a comprehensive record of Greece’s electoral history over the past 50 years. —Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece (2019-) Today, democracy is being tested - in Greece, in Europe, and all over the world. This book is a reminder that change is possible. I hope this work will inspire a new dialogue on democracy, politics and the need for continuous reform. —George Papandreou, former Prime Minister of Greece (2009-2011) This book gives us a timely reflection on the elections of the Metapolitefsi, the turning points of Greek politics. The discussions bring together experts, young and old, to offer an invaluable historical record. —Kevin Featherstone, Emeritus Professor, Professorial Research Fellow, Hellenic Observatory, London School of Economics and Political Science, UK This edited volume considers the role of the political environment in election campaigning and ultimately in the electoral outcomes of half a century of elections in Greece. In each chapter, the authors analyse the political environment of the specific period, discuss the main events and protagonists, the design of the political campaigns, and attempt to offer explanations on the reasons behind loss or victory. Despite fragmented attempts to study such phenomena, there is no comprehensive work that focuses on the various ramifications that have affected and shaped electoral results for such a long time, covering the whole period since the restoration of democracy in Greece in 1974. The book has been developed following a series of podcasts with politicians, academics and political analysts. Petros Ioannidis is a political analyst and the founder and CEO of aboutpeople, a public opinion company based in Athens, Greece. He has been doing research, communications and strategy since 2002. Elias Tsaoussakis is a communications, strategy and research consultant. He specializes in social research, the analysis of political behaviour, political communication as well as political strategy design.
