Happiness is no accident: the long-term impact of 'Happiness' course on pupils' personal development

This thesis focuses on the concept of learning happiness, particularly within an educational context. Here, 'happiness' is understood in terms of well-being, joy and contentment. Happiness-which can, to a certain extent, be learned through appropriate perspectives, ways of thinking, methods and the right attitude to life-is the goal of every individual. School is the ideal place to impart this knowledge. However, as studies show that for most pupils school is comparable to a frightening visit to the dentist, a change in the education system is necessary to counteract this negative perception. Being happy would be an asset to society as a whole, as it has a positive impact on health, the community and general well-being. This thesis aims to contribute to increasing happiness in society, with a focus on setting the course for this as early as school.
